Who recruits for bank IT posts
Two channels cover almost every government bank IT job in Bangladesh. Knowing which one a circular comes from tells you a lot about the exam you will sit.
Bangladesh Bank recruits its own IT staff: Assistant Director (ICT), Assistant Programmer (AP) and Assistant Maintenance Engineer (AME).
The Bankers' Selection Committee (BSC) runs combined recruitment for the state-owned and specialised banks: Officer (IT), Senior Officer (IT), Assistant Programmer and Assistant Maintenance Engineer.
Who sets the question paper
The exam taker shapes the paper more than the bank does. BIBM (Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management) set nearly all BSC combined-bank IT exams and the Bangladesh Bank Assistant Programmer and AME exams from 2023 to 2026, so the BIBM pattern is the one to practise first. Earlier papers came from other institutions: CTI set the IT exams in 2021–22, and AUST set the 2021 Senior Officer (IT) MCQ. Old papers from those years are still useful for topics, but the BIBM format is the current one.
Bank IT exam pattern (BIBM)
The exam has two stages. The preliminary is 80 MCQs in 1 hour; it only qualifies you for the written exam, and its subject split varies by year (IT plus mathematics and general knowledge). The written exam is the one that decides the merit list: 200 marks in 2 hours.

Bank IT syllabus: what to study
BIBM papers cover the core CSE curriculum. These are the topics that keep coming back in the preliminary and the written:
Database & SQL — joins, GROUP BY / HAVING, subqueries, normalization, transactions.
Networking — OSI/TCP-IP layers, subnetting, routing, common protocols.
Data structures & algorithms — stacks, queues, trees, graphs, sorting, searching and complexity.
Operating systems — scheduling, deadlock, memory management, paging and caching.
Programming and OOP — C/C++ and Java code output, classes, inheritance, polymorphism.
Software engineering & testing — SDLC models, UML diagrams, test levels and techniques.
Computer architecture & digital logic — number systems, cache, gates, ADC/DAC.
Cyber security, AI/ML and cloud basics, plus banking IT.
Mathematics (including sets and probability), general knowledge, focus writing and translation.
A study plan that works
Most candidates lose marks in the written exam, not the MCQ. Build MCQ speed early, then spend most of your time writing full answers.
Step 1 — Fundamentals: go subject by subject (DBMS, networking, OS, DSA) with topic-wise MCQ practice until you score well in each.
Step 2 — Preliminary speed: take timed mock tests so 80 questions in 60 minutes feels normal.
Step 3 — Written answers: write SQL queries, code-output traces, cache/DAC calculations and UML diagrams on paper, then compare with model answers.
Step 4 — Full papers: sit complete BIBM-pattern model tests in 2 hours, including math, focus writing and translation.
Step 5 — Revise and review old papers: go through previous year questions and the last-moment written problems in the final weeks.
Who sets the bank IT exam questions in Bangladesh?
From 2023 to 2026, BIBM set nearly all Bankers' Selection Committee combined-bank IT exams and the Bangladesh Bank Assistant Programmer and AME exams. CTI set the IT exams in 2021–22, and AUST set the 2021 Senior Officer (IT) MCQ.
What is the bank IT officer exam pattern?
A preliminary of 80 MCQs in 1 hour, then a 200-mark written exam in 2 hours: 15 IT questions of 10 marks each (150), 4 math questions (20), focus writing (10) and translation, Bangla to English or English to Bangla (20).
Which topics matter most in the bank IT written exam?
SQL queries, data structures and algorithms, OOP, operating systems and networking come up every year. The 2024 Sonali + Janata Officer (IT) paper also asked cache and DAC calculations, sets and probability, and UML diagrams.
Is bank IT job preparation on IT Job BD free?
Yes. The BIBM-pattern model tests, subject-wise MCQ practice, mock tests, Top 600 written questions, previous year questions and the Android app are all completely free.
Is the Bangladesh Bank Assistant Programmer exam different from the combined bank exam?
Bangladesh Bank recruits separately from the combined banks, but from 2023 to 2026 BIBM set both its Assistant Programmer/AME exams and the combined-bank IT exams, so the same BIBM-pattern preparation covers both.
